E.E. Cummings wrote the text for Adventures in Value. About this photo he wrote:
Old Mr Lyman
decades ago,”ruddy as a sun/with blue true two”carried a young maple home from the further end of Three Mile Pond;&recently died
in a handsome white house which stands beside that huge very tree.
(The tree obviously knew he would die:&began dying also). During
fifty years he worked–when loafing wasn’t mankind’s sole aim–hard
& well,on behalf of a railroad which no longer feigns existence…
Silver Lake was originally known as Three Mile Lake.
